Secret 14: Monday Success Plan
Weekly Renewal
The most common issue with a company’s vision is that it doesn’t stay active on a daily basis. It’s like a misplaced business plan that ends up on a shelf, never to be looked at again.
When I ask business owners about their vision, I often hear, “Oh, I have it on my computer somewhere, can I email it to you?”
Days later I receive it and have a look. I tell them, “This is excellent. It’s inspiring!” Then I ask them how often they review the vision, and they say, “Well, never really.”
That’s the problem. A company’s vision needs constant renewal. It’s the guiding picture of what you’re building. Your vision is your muse, your inspiration, and your roadmap. You need to be considering it daily, or if not daily, then weekly. Your vision should lift your spirits and provide guidance, direction, and motivation to your entrepreneurial dreams. It is an internal and external tool.
A visionary entrepreneur doesn’t start off his or her week like most other people, arriving at the office, getting some coffee, and going right to their email. Instead, you start your week by reviewing and imagining your business. You find a neutral third place between your home and workplace, perhaps a favorite coffee shop or diner, where you can sit and quietly review your vision. I go to a terrific coffee shop called the Purple Perk, where they bake incredible Morning Glory muffins. I launch my week with terrific coffee, a warm muffin, and no distractions from my vision and goals for my own little “empire.”
After you’ve fired up your week by taking stock of your vision, you can show up at your workplace with your vision renewed. In this way, you’ll know how to direct your people. You’ll know what you need them to accomplish both short and long term. You’ll be able to see to the far horizon, way past the distraction of emails. By planning your steps and actions for the week you’ll bring your vision that much closer to fruition. This is how you transform your vision into daily action.
